Adventists For Life Position Statement

Adventists for Life is a group of Seventh Day Adventists who fully support the Adventist Truth and love the Seventh Day Adventist Church and its 28 Fundamental Doctrines.  Adventists for Life in no way intends to undermine or cause division within the Church.  Our only goal is to see the sanctity of life fully honored by our Church.

Adventists for Life does not condemn or judge any woman or couple who has had an abortion.  We are in no position to judge the actions taken by people in the very complicated and emotionally charged positions that they may have found themselves.  We are all sinners and forgiveness is ALWAYS available to ALL of us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  However, Adventists for Life must stand for the sanctity of human life and must always advocate for fully honoring the sanctity of human life.

All human life, from the moment of conception onward, is sacred and given from God.  As the book, Seventh Day Adventists Believe…A Biblical Exposition of 27 Fundamental Doctrines explains, “Because life is a gift from God, we must respect it; in fact, we have a moral duty to preserve it.”

  • “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” (Jeremiah 1:5a)
  • "For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.  I will give thanks to You, for I am wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:13-14)
  • “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse.  So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
  • “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?”  (Mark 3:4)

Abortion is a primary, salvation-level issue.  It is not a secondary issue in the realm of Christianity.   Abortion terminates the life of a voiceless and completely innocent human being.  As Christians, we are responsible for aiding and caring for those around us, especially those in need or less able to care for themselves.  Unborn children are the most helpless, voiceless, and innocent of our brothers and sisters.  The Bible tells us that our salvation depends on our action or inaction toward those around us who require our aid.
